Larry has been a long–time member of the Christian Community Development Association and has worked with the urban poor for twenty years. His story will help encourage others to take risk and be innovative in their approach to ministry . . . He has a good story to tell and I like the way he tells it. — Dr. John M. Perkins, author, One Blood and He Calls Me Friend.
"I was privileged to be with Larry and his crew when The Table Cafe opened, witnessing first-hand the hope and light that it brings to the Portland community in Louisville. Larry has been "thinking red" for years. He lived this book long before it became a print volume. Think Red is not a command by someone who is angry. It is an invitation to the richer, fuller, abundant life that Jesus offers — Reggie McNeal, author, Kingdom Come and Kingdom Collaborators
In this book, Larry Stoess casts a vision for the Christian faith that looks like Jesus, acts like Jesus, loves like Jesus. He invites us to “think red,” referring to the Bibles that highlight Jesus’s words in red font. Basically, Stoess is daring us all to live as if Jesus meant the stuff he said. This book is an altar call, commissioning us to live out a better version of our faith… it is a call for Christianity to be “born again.” – Shane Claiborne, author, activist and co–founder of Red Letter Christians
Think Red is just that—thinking and exploring the true meaning of Christ's words, not just for personal reflection but rather communal empowerment and transformation. Larry Stoess says it best: together we're gonna do something. – Angel Hamilton, The Bluegrass Mom Blog
I purchased this book months ago, but only recently finished it. Along the way I have read a few others, but I kept this little gem with my Bible, and did what I consider one of the best compliments I can pay any book; I read it slowly. I spent time underlining and highlighting passages, and I continually reread sections along the way. I would sit with it, and contemplate its words . . . One thing I have learned after reading Larry's book, and watching his youtube videos, is that Larry doesn't like to waste words. He is intentional in his writing and his speaking. This little book is so good! In fact, I am strongly considering using it for our youth study while on mission this summer. There were times when I smiled as he quoted some of my favorite authors. The book is still alongside my Bible.
I'm excited to know that now I can get a hardcover copy at Barnes and Noble because this one is a tad tattered. It's available on Kindle, paperback, and hardcover. I wish it were an Audible book. I would love to hear Larry read it. It can be found pretty much anywhere books are sold. |
